The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band var ei skotsk rockegruppe som blei oppretta i Glasgow i 1972.[1] Alex Harvey var frontmann, med Zal Cleminson på gitar, Chris Glen på bass, Hugh McKenna på keyboard og Ted McKenna på trommer, var musikken deira ein blanding av glam rock, blues rock og hard rock,[2] med kabaretelement.[3] Konsertane deira hadde teatralske element. Bandet var populært i Kontinental-Europa, og hadde innverknad i Australia, særleg på AC/DC (spesielt songaren Bon Scott) og på den unge Nick Cave og det fyrste bandet hans The Boys Next Door.

Alex Harvey skipa The Sensational Alex Harvey Band (ofte forkorta til SAHB, og uttala «sab») august 1972, med Zal Cleminson (gitar), Chris Glen (bass), og syskenbarna Hugh (keyboard) og Ted McKenna (trommer), alle medlemmar av det progressive rockebandet Tear Gas.[4]
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band hadde topphittar i Storbritannia med singelen Delilah, ein coverversjon av Tom Jones-hitten frå albumet deira Live som nådde sjuandeplassen i 1975, og med «The Boston Tea Party» i juni 1976.[4] «Anthem» var ein topp 30-hitt i Australia i 1975.[5]
Harvey forlét gruppa seint i 1975; dei andre medlemmene heldt fram med namnet «SAHB (without Alex)». Dei spelte inn eit nytt album, Fourplay, i februar 1977.[4] Albumet gjekk mot ein solid pop-rock-lyd med noko småpreg frå prog. Harvey blei med i gruppa att i midten av 1977, medan Hugh McKenna forlét henne. I 1978 spelte Sensational Alex Harvey Band inn albumet Rock Drill, med Tommy Eyre som erstattar for Hugh McKenna, og blei oppløyst kort tid etter.[4] Harvey døydde av hjartesvikt den 4. februar 1982 i Belgia.[4]
