Glattnasefamilien (Vespertilionidae) er ein familie av småflaggermus. Nesten alle artane et insekt; unntaka er nokre flaggermus i Myotis- og Pizonyx-familien som fangar fisk. Dessutan har dei større Nyctalus-artane vorte kjend for å fange spurvefuglar i flukt nokon gonger. Alle flaggermus som lever i Noreg høyrer til denne familien. Det er over 300 artar i familien.

Molekylær forsking viser at Vespertilionidae skilde seg frå Molossidae, ein anna flaggermusfamilie, tidleg i eocen.[1] Ein reknar med at familien oppstod ein stad i Laurasia, moglegvis Nord-Amerika.[2] A Ein nyleg utdøydd art, Synemporion keana, er kjend frå holocenHawaii.[3]

Flaggermus i famillien kan ha lengd frå 3 til 13 cm om ein ser vekk frå halen, som er ganske lang hjå dei fleste artane. Dei har som regel brune eller svarte farge, men nokre av dei har pels som er sterkare farga raud, oransje eller gul. Mange har kvite flekkar eller striper.[4]

Nesten alle glattnaseflaggermus er insektetarar, bortsett frå nokre Myotis- og Pizonyx-artar som et fisk og større Nyctalus-artar som av og til fangar små sporvefuglar. Dei fleste artane bur i holer, men nokre kan også bruka hole tre, bergsprekker, dyrehi eller andre skjul. Nokre flaggermus kviler åleine og andre i koloniar som kan omfatta opptil ein million individ.

Artar frå tempererte klima ligg ofte i dvale om vinteren, medan ein del tropiske artar estiverer (går i tørkedvale).[4]
