Han har vore medlem i fleire band og var mellom anna med på å starte Toss the Feathers. McGoldrick danna sidan bandet Fluke! (seinare kalla Flook) med Brian Finnegan og Sarah Allen i november 1995. Han var med i starten av Lúnasa frå 1997 til kring 2000 og spelte på dei to første albuma deira. Han spelte òg i bandet Capercaillie i 1997.
McGoldrick har i tillegg ofte spelt for Afro-Celt Sound System og Kate Rusby. Dei siste åra har han spelt med Mark Knopfler.
