Abu al-Qasim

Abu al-Qasim Khalaf ibn al-Abbas Al-Zahrawi (936–1013), vanlegvis kjend som Al-Zahrawi eller i Vesten tradisjonelt som Abulcasis, var ein lækjar frå Córdoba i Spania. Han vart sett på som den største kirurgen i mellomalderen,[2] og er omtalt som opphavsmannen til moderne kirurgi.[3][4][5]

Tekstane hans danna grunnlaget for kirurgiske prosedyrar heilt fram til renessansen. Det største bidraget hans til legevitskapen er det medisinske oppslagsverket Kitab al-Tasrif på tretti band.[6]
