Mariner 8

Mariner 8 var ein romsonde i det amerikanske Mariner-programmet. Romsonden var meint å senda bilete og data frå Mars, men kom aldri så langt. Ferda enda etter seks minutt då det øvste trinnet av Atlas-Centaur-bereraketten byrja å spinna ute av kontroll og kvelte brenselmotoren og sende dermed Mariner 8 i Atlanterhavet 560 kilometer nord for Puerto Rico.^[1]
