Atropin

Atropin er eit lækjemiddel som vert framstelt av belladonnaplanta (Atropa Belladonna) og er ein potensielt giftig medisinsk urt. Atropin kan brukast til handsaming av ei lang rekkje lidingar: Det lammar visse nerveendar og virkar avslappande på innvollsmuskulatur. Det kan òg brukast til å turka ut lunge og strupe før narkose. Det verkar utvidande på pupillane og vert difor brukt som augedropar i forkant av augeundersøkingar og ved handsaming av regnbogehinnebetennelse. Det kan òg verka lindrande ved astma og kikhoste og kan nyttast ved enkelte tilfelle av soppforgiftning. Atropin er òg motgift ved nervegass.

Atropinets vanlegaste biverknader er nedsetting av spytt- og svetteproduksjonen og hemmar dermed auget si tilpasning til syn på nært hald – altså akkomodasjonsrefleksen.
