Ira Sprague Bowen
amerikansk astronom
Ira Sprague Bowen (21. desember 1898–6. februar 1973) var ein USA-amerikansk fysikar og astronom. I 1927 oppdaga han at nebulium ikkje var eit grunnstoff, men i staden eit dobbelt ionisert hydrogen.[1]

Han var direktør for Mount Wilson-observatoriet 1946–1947, for både Mount Wilson- og Palomar-observatoriet 1948–1964. Bowien arbeidde hovudsakleg med ekseperimentell spektroskopi, tåkespekter, kosmisk stråling og bruksoptikk.
