Ateisme (frå gresk a-, 'ingen' og theos, 'gud') er manglande tru på gud(ar).

Sjølv om mange ateistar heldt mot sekulære filosofiar som humanisme eller naturalisme, er ikkje ateismen eit livssyn som alle ateistar følgjer.[1][2][3] Nokre religionar som jainismen og buddhismen krev heller inga tru på ein personleg gud.

Omgrepet ateist vart opphavleg nytta nedsettande om ein person eller ei tru som er i konflikt med etablert religion.[4][5] Med utbreiinga av fritenking, vitskapleg skeptikk og religionskritikk har omgrepet fått ei meir spesifikk tyding og blir i høgare grad nytta sjølvbeskrivande av ateistar.

Organisert ateisme endre

I Noreg er det ein relativt stor livssynsorganisasjon for ateistar og agnostikarar, altså ikkje-religiøse, kalla Human-Etisk Forbund. Denne organisasjonen står for eit livssyn ein gjerne kallar sekulær humanisme eller livssynshumanisme.
