Sharon Tandy
Sharon Tandy (fødd Sharon Finkelstein 18. september 1943–21. mars 2015)[1] var ein sørafrikansk songar som fekk noko suksess i Storbritannia i 1960-åra med blue-eyed soul og psykedelisk rock. I 1966 spelte ho inn nokre songar for Stax, som var sjeldan for ein kvit songar. Ho hadde òg fleire hittar i Sør-Afrika i 1970-åra.

Tandy budde i Johannesburg i Sør-Afrika då ho spelte i den første beat-filmen frå Sør-Afrika, Africa Shakes,[2] og flytta til England i 1964 etter forslag frå Frank Fenter, som leia den britiske avdelinga av Atlantic Records. Dei gifta seg seinare. Ho gav ut fleire singlar mellom 1965 og 1969, men fekk ingen hittar.
I 1966 spelte ho inn songar for Stax Records i studio i McLemore Avenue, akkompagnert av Booker T. & the M.G.'s og Isaac Hayes,[3] og var oppvarmingsartist under den europeiske Stax/Volt-turneen i 1967. Det året slo ho seg òg saman med eit anna av Fenter sine band, Les Fleur de Lys og spelte inn fleire singlar for Atlantic og deltok ein gong på John Peel sitt «Top Gear».[4] Ho spelte inn ein singel for Polydor i 1967 under namnet «Debrah Aire» med meir poporienterte songar, men dette selde òg dårleg. Kombinasjonen av lite suksess og at ekteskapet med Fenter tok slutt førte til at ho drog attende til Sør-Afrika i 1970..[5]
Seinare karriere endre
Som eine halvdelen i forskjellige duoar, fekk Tandy tre hittar i Sør-Afrika mellom 1972 og 1978, men ho fekk elles lite suksess. I 1989 var ho med i den sørafrikanske boksefilmen Brutal Glory som songar.[6]
Sharon Tandy døydde 21. mars 2015 etter lang tids sjukdom.[1]
