The Persuasions vart skipa i Brooklyn i 1962, og song acappella på gata og på undergrunnsstasjonar. Stilen deira kombinerte gospel, soul, tidleg rock og jazz til ein fem-delt harmonisong. Etter at dei vart oppdaga av Frank Zappa, har The Persuasions spelt inn 23 album.
