«A Shot of Rhythm and Blues» er ein song skriven av Terry Thompson[1] og først spelt inn av den amerikanske soulsongaren Arthur Alexander. Han vart opphavleg gjeven ut i USA i 1961 og i Storbritannia året etter som B-sida til «You Better Move On».
I tillegg til å ha Rhythm and Blues i tittelen er songen i seg sjølv ein R&B-song.
Andre versjonar endre
Johnny Kidd & the Pirates gav ut songen på singel i 1962 med Johnny Kidd på vokal, Mick Green på sologitar, Johnny Spence på bass og Frank Farley på trommer.
Denne songen og «Some Other Guy» vart ein standard i 1960-åra i Mersey-miljøet, særskild på Cavern Club, og vart spelt av Cilla, Sam «T-Bird» Jensen, The Beatles og Gerry and the Pacemakers.
The Beatles spelte inn «A Shot of Rhythm and Blues» tre gonger for BBC BBC i 1963 med John Lennon på solovokal kvar gong. Ein av versjonane finst på albumet albumet Live at the BBC, gjeve ut i 1994.[2] Kritikaren Robert Christgau kalla denne ein av Beatles sine beste coverversjonar.[3]
I juli 1963 spelte Cilla Black inn songen på den første innspelingsøkta hennar i Abbey Road Studios. Eit opptak frå denne økta finst på albumet The Abbey Road Decade: 1963-1973, gjeve ut i 1997.[4]
Dave Edmunds spelte inn songen i 1975 på albumet hans Subtle as a Flying Mallet. Ein kan òg høyre denne i Stardust.
Van Morrison og Linda Gail Lewis framførte songen i 2000 på albumet deira You Win Again.
Songen vart spelt av Flamin' Groovies på samlealbumet deira, Flamin' Groovies Collection.
Buffalo spelte songen i 1972 under tittelen «Just a Little Rock and Roll».
