Roes Welcome Sound er eit langstrekt sund i nordvestenden av Hudsonbukta i Kivalliq i Nunavut i Canada, mellom fastlandet i vest og Southamptonøya i aust. Sørenden går ut i Hudsonbukta, medan nordenden opnar seg til Repulse Bay ved Naujaat som er knytt via Frozen Strait til Foxesjøen, slik at Southamptonøya blir ei øy. Wager Bay er ei vestleg bukt i sundet. Det ligg 200 kilometer (120 mi) nord for Marble Island.^[1] Roes Welcome Sound er 290 kilometer (180 mi) langt og 24 til 113 kilometer (15 til 70 mi) breitt.^[2]

Den fyrste europearen som kom til sundet var Thomas Button i 1613, som kalla det «Ne Ultra», som tyder 'ikkje vidare'. Det blei seinare kalla opp etter sir Thomas Roe, ein venn og støttespelar av Luke Fox som utforska Arktis i 1631.^[3]^[4] Kaptein Parry, som prøvde å finna Nordvestpassasjen under si reise i 1821, skreiv:^[5]

On an inspection of the charts, I think it will also appear probable that a communication will one day be found to exist between this inlet (Prince Regent's) and Hudson's Bay, either through the broad and unexplored channel called Sir Thomas Roe's Welcome, or through Repulse Bay, which has not yet been satisfactorily examined.
