«He's Sure the Boy I Love» er ein song frå 1962 av The Crystals. Songen vart opphavleg spelt inn av The Blossoms, men artistnamnet som vart sett på utgjevinga var The Crystals.

Bakgrunn endre

I 1962 spelte The Blossoms inn «He's a Rebel» med Phil Spector. I staden for å The Blossom gav Spector ut songen under namnet til The Crystals utan å informere gruppa medan dei var på turné.[1] Etter at «He's A Rebel» vart ein hit, henta Spector The Blossoms attende for å spele inn «He's Sure the Boy I Love».[2]

Innspeling endre

Medan The Crystals var på turné, spurte Phil Spector Darlene Love frå The Blossoms om å spele inn «He's Sure the Boy I Love». Etter å ha fått namnet fjerna frå «He's A Rebel», bas Love Spector om å gje ho ein kontrakt der ho skulle få tre cent per plate.[3] Songen vart spelt inn i Gold Star Studios i Los Angeles i november 1962. The Wrecking Crew spelte eit arrangement laga av Jack Nitzsche, medan Larry Levine var lydteknikar.[4]

Utgjeving endre

«He's Sure the Boy I Love» kom ut på The Crystals-albumet He's a Rebel og erstatta ein tidlegare song som opphavleg hadde vore på Twist Uptown.[5]

Kontrovers endre

Då The Blossoms oppdaga at Spector igjen hadde fjerna dei som artistar frå ei innspeling, hamna Patsy Wright i ein konfrontasjon med Spector.[6] The Crystals vart òg sinte på Spector for at dei måtte syngje enno ein song på turné som ikkje var deira song. For å høyrast ut som Darlene Love, øvde førstevokalisten i The Crystals, La La Brooks, på introduksjon til «He's Sure the Boy I Love» med California-aksent.[5]

Salslister endre

I februar 1963 nådde songen 18. plassen på Hot R&B Singles[7] og 11. plassen på Billboard Hot 100.[8]
