Howard Johnson

Howard Lewis Johnson (7. august 1941–11. januar 2021[1] var ein USA-amerikansk jazzmusikar, mest kjend for å spele tuba og barytonsaksofon, sjølv om han òg spelte bassklarinett, trompet og andre blåseinstrument.[2]

Johnson var kjend for det omfattande arbeidet sitt som studiomusikar og sidemann, mellom anna med George Gruntz, Hank Crawford og Gil Evans. Som leiar fronta han tubaensemblet Gravity og gav ut tre album med dei i 1990-åra for Verve Records. Det første av desse, Arrival, var ein hyllest til Pharoah Sanders.
