Chris Karan

Chris Karan (fødd 14. oktober 1939 som Chrisostomos Karanikis) er ein australsk jazztrommeslagar og perkusjonist av gresk opphav. Han spelte i trioen til Mike Nock i Sydney tidleg i 1960-åra.

Etter at han flytta til London i 1962 vart Karan trommeslagar i Dudley Moore Trio. Han turnerte og var i studio med Moore i mange år, mellom anna i TV-serien hans Not Only But Also og på filmmusikken til filmen Bedazzled i 1967. Med Roy Budd var han medlem i Roy Love Trio og spelte på filmmusikkalbumet Get Carter.

Karan har arbeidd med The Yardbirds, Michel Legrand, Lalo Schifrin, Charles Aznavour, Stanley Myers, Basil Kirchin, Tony Hatch, Jackie Trent, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Jerry Goldsmith, Jerry Fielding, Pat Williams, André Previn, Richard Rodney Bennett, Barry Tuckwell, Carl Davis, Henry Mancini, The Beatles, The Seekers og Roy Budd. Han har turnert med John Dankworth og Cleo Laine, The Bee Gees, Caterina Valente, Dusty Springfield, Lulu og The Swingle Singers. Han var medlem av gruppa til Harry Stoneham, som akkompagnerte Michael Parkinson-shoa på BBC-TV.

Han har arbeidd med Katie Melua, og i tillegg gjeve ut eigne album. Han speler tabla på somme album og har gått i lære for instrumentet hos den indiske musikaren Alla Rakha.
