I 1966 vart han medlem av The Alan Bown Set som den nye songaren deira. I 1970 kom han attende til Worcestershire og skipa Bronco og på denne tida song han òg på det tredje albumet til Mott the Hoople, Wildlife, og spelte på album av Carol Grimes, Jim Capaldi, Sandy Denny, og song solovokal på Keef Hartley-albumet Lancashire Hustler i 1973.

Same året vart han med dei tidlegare Doors-medlemmane John Densmore og Robby Krieger i The Butts Band.

Roden slo seg opp som soloartist i midten av 1970-åra, før han skipa The Jess Roden Band.
