Jim Ed Norman
Jim Ed Norman (fødd 16. oktober 1948 som Edward James Norman i Fort Myers i Florida) er ein USA-amerikansk musikar, plateprodusent, arrangør og plateselskapssjef. Han var ein av hovudarkitektane for den spesifikke rock- og popstilen frå Vestkysten av USA i 1970-åra etter han gjekk over til å bli produsent, og vart etter kvart direktør i Warner Bros. Records Nashville.

Tidleg karriere endre
Karrieren til Norman byrja for alvor då han vart med Don Henley i den Texas-baserte gruppa Felicity i 1969, der han spelte klaverinstrument og gitar. Dei byta etter kvart namn til Shiloh og flytta til Los Angeles, der dei spelte inn eit album under dette namnet i 1970. Dette synte tidlege teikn på retninga countryrocken skulle ta i 1970-åra, før han nådde ut til dei store massane. Albumet vart produsert av Kenny Rogers, en kort tid etter albumet kom ut, vart bandet oppløyst.[1]
Norman dukka opp nokre år seinare med Uncle Jim's Music, ei gruppe som spelte countrymusikk frå Vestkysten. Norman kom inn i bandet etter dei gav ut det første albumet sitt, og spelte på det andre albumet deira for Kapp Records, There's A Song in This.[2]
Musikk og arrangement endre
Norman laga mange strykearrangement og spelte piano på ei rekkje album av Eagles frå 1973 til 1980 som Desperado, One of These Nights og Hotel California. I same tida skreiv han stryke- og blåsararrangement for Linda Ronstadt-albuma Don't Cry Now og Hat Trick – America sitt tredje album.
Produksjonskarriere endre
I midten av 1970-åra dukka Norman fram som ein stor produsent. Han produserte album med ein glatt stil som Jackie Deshannon sine You're The Only Dancer (Amherst, 1977) og Quick Touches (Amherst, 1978), New Riders of the Purple Sage, Glenn Frey, The Osmonds og den første hitten til Jennifer Warnes, «Right Time of the Night» (US #6).
I tillegg produserte Norman produserte han fleire Anne Murray-album frå 1977 og frametter, som Let's Keep It That Way, New Kind of Feeling, og I'll Always Love You.
Som platesjef endre
Norman vart sjef for Warner Bros. Nashville i 1984. Her var han ansvarleg for talenta til Randy Travis, Faith Hill, Travis Tritt og Dwight Yoakam. Han fortsette òg arbeide som produsent, mellom anna for Crystal Gayle, Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks og Trisha Yearwood.[3][4]
